Leslie Scott Matthews, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon and currently Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Medstar Union Memorial Hospital, Regional Director of Orthopaedic Surgery for Medstar Health and Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Dr. Matthews is an active member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), American Orthopaedic Association (AOA), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES). Dr. Matthews has served as the President of the AANA, the Sports Medicine Committee, American Academy Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), chair of the Arthroscopy Journal Board of Trustees, Chair of the Orthopaedic Learning Center and chair of AANA Foundation Board of Directors.

Dr. Matthews has advised numerous orthopaedic innovators as a board member including: HealthGrades.com, Rotation Medical, Arthrocare, Axya and Orthopaedic Biosystems; and consulted to many more innovators in Orthopaedics.

Dr. Matthews attended Johns Hopkins University where was a two-time All-American lacrosse player. He attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and completed his internship and orthopaedic training at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He completed fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital.

As Regional Director of Orthopaedics for Medstar Health, Dr. Matthew’s focus has been on quality, value and access. He has worked extensively on monitoring and improving quality of orthopaedic care, ensuring cost effective and appropriate treatments are utilized and in developing portals of access to facilitate linking the right patients with the right surgical provider. Bringing successful practical clinical experience of managing quality with a specialty, he has helped ArmadaHealth develop a framework of quality measures and specific measures for the most requested specialty.
